MIDA Filmmaker Plan announces 22 shortlist proposals from a total number of 238 proposals on 8th May. MIDA Filmmaker plan initialed the annual proposal recruitment since 10th,March. The theme of 2010 Filmmaker Plan is "The Asian Era". Filmmaker Plan wishes to invite new directors to create the "Asian Dream" together. By the end of 1st May, MIDA has received proposals which cover a wide range of topics such as history, economy, culture, human race, the female sex, education, environment protection, science and technology.

The 10 proposals of "Fresh Faces Category" come from universities all over China,including Qinhua University; Communication University of China; Beijing Film Academy, Fudan University, Tongji University, Shanghai Theatre Academy; Zhejiang University of Technology; Zhejiang Institute of Medial Communications; Shanghai University and Communication University of China' Nanjing. as follows:
22 directors of short listed directors will bring their ideas to Shanghai from 7 June to 9th June and join the competition for 6 grand awards. Directors will have the chance to join the MIDA Master Class and EAA Forum. On 10th June, MIDA Committee, composed of internationally recognized experts and directors, will announce 5 outstanding proposals and "Outstanding proposal by a new director" Award. MIDA will provide winners with financial and technology support. The 2010 MIDA Committee features an all-star class, including Academy-winning director Cui MInghui, the Fifth Generation director Peng Xiaolian, the well-acknowledged documentary director Kang Jianning, Independent documentary director Zhou Hao, documentary director Wang Xiaolong and Former CEO of Conde Nast, Liu Bingsen.
The predecessor to the MIDA Filmmaker Plan was the DocuChina Filmmaker Plan. It was developed by Shanghai Documentary Channel in 2006 with the aim to support long term documentary film productions in China and included professional training and commissioned projects in documentary films. The documentary film industry has since been categorized into "community" and "specialized production" categories. A coalition of well known professionals such as Jia Zhang He, Lu Chuan, Wang Xiaoshuai, Wang Quan'An, Peng Xiaolian, Ning Ying, Zhang Yuan, Christine Choy, Lai Shengchuan have raised the Chinese film industry's appreciation and expectation of the Filmmaker Plan. changing china,"Face of China", and "Law of Survival" as themes and attracted thousands of film workers from Chinese speaking regions, receiving over 800 creative proposals. It has also constructed a database of talented Chinese documentary creators and gathered invaluable experience in pre-sales market, and encouraging a new wave of inspired works in Asia and at international film festivals. In 2010, the MIDA Filmmaker Plan has expanded to encompass the entire Asian region and will provide funding, platform and distribution support for documentary films in Asia.
MIDA Filmmaker Plan accepts documentary film proposals year round and announces its results every June and December for the summer and winter seasons. Once selected, MIDA will provide financial and technical support to these films. MIDA plans to support 20 documentary film projects annually.
