NEWS · Oscar Nominations for Documentary Films announced

The Academy announced the Oscar Nominated Documentary Films for 2010 on 12th, February. Nominated in the Documentary Feature category are: Burma VJ; The Cove; Food.Inc.; The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers and Which Way Home. In the Documentary Short category, the nominees are: China's Unnatural Disaster: the Tears of Sichuan Province; The Last Campaign of Governer Booth Gardner; The Last Truck: Closing of a GM Plant; Music by Prudence and Rabbit à la Berlin.

From the day it was released, The Cove has been a beacon for change. Louie Psihoyo's award-winning documentary takes the form of a suspense thriller as it follows a high-tech dive team on a mission to infiltrate a remote and heavily guarded cove off the coast of Japan, where tens of thousands of dolphins are slaughtered each year and sold for food despite the toxic mercury content of their meat.

The Oscar-nominated documentary FOOD, INC. takes the work of two authors, ERIC SCHLOSSER (FAST FOOD NATION) and MICHAEL POLLAN (THE OMNIVORE'S DILEMMA), and distills them into a searing look at what we should and shouldn't be eating. Here's a clue: there's a lot more of the latter than the former. The film closely examines the relationship between government and food and exposes deathly practices that are in dire need of reform.
