NEWS · MIDA, a grand celebration of documentary films
 













The 2010 MIDA International Film Festival had its open ceremony on June 7th at Shanghai Xintien Di’s UME Cinema at 8pm. It included a 30 minute opening ceremony and a worldwide premier of the two hour film, The Bund.

The crowds gathered before seven and all were very expectant of tonight’s show. Because of overbooking many of the audiences were awaiting ticket refunds. Other than the shortage of seats, the surrounding stairwells and side walk, a rare massive turnout in China.

At eight in the evening the local rock band, “Blue Park” performed the song, “I Am King” in a live house styled party. ICS host, Pan Xiaoli hosted bilingually and was professional, open, warm and cosmopolitan.

At the opening ceremony the EAA Documentary Forum, MIDA Documentary Film Awards, MIDA Director’s Program and other MIDA sponsored events were introduced. The executive assistant of SMG, Cheng Liang, along with other chairmen from international documentary film festivals and MIDA Awards and Director’s Plan jurors gave speeches accompanied by rock music. Four hundred people shared this beautiful and memorable night of documentaries.

Many from the audience said this innovative, warm opening ceremony left them with lots of beautiful memories. At the end of the ceremony, director Zhou Bing gave a premier speech for the movie, The Bund, finally revealing this mysterious movie to the audience for the first time.
