  · Regulations MIDA 2010


1. MIDA 2010 will be held in Shanghai, China between 7 and 10 June, 2010.
2. MIDA is the leading International Documentary Award in Asia, The Event will include the MIDA Award, MIDA Panorama and MIDA Fund.
3. MIDA is a festival dedicated to documentary cinema, the substance of this event is about "contemporary history", to reflect and present the profound changes of human history and the most imminent social topics. The festival gives priority to films that have not yet been released in China both in the case of Chinese as well as foreign films.
4. The Selection Committee seeks films with cinematographic quality as well as innovative aesthetic sense, which manifest the point of view of the author both in terms of content as well as form.
5. Only films concluded after 1st January 2009 are eligible for the competitive categories. There is no limit of duration.
6. Films can compete, with the following projection formats: 35mm, Beta SP Pal and Beta Digital Pal. All the films selected will be screened during the festival with subtitles in Chinese and English.
7. The deadline for entries is 10 April 2010.
8. MIDA has four competitive categories:
- Social Documentary
– films that reflect contemporary human social activities and living conditions.
- History & Biography Documentary
– Macro history or biographical films.
- Nature Documentary
– films depicting wildlife in their natural environments or films that arouse public awareness in environmental protection.
- Asian Documentary
–Films that are made in Asia and about Asia.
9. The Competition Juries will comprise internationally renowned personalities from the cinematographic world.
10. The MIDA awards consist of a trophy, a diploma and prize money awarded to the director.
11. Awards:
- Golden MIDA
–2.000€
- Silver MIDA
– 1.000€
12. The decisions of the Juries are final.
13. How to enter a film:
- download the entry form.
- A DVD version of the film with subtitles in English or Chinese. Participants are requested to test the DVD copies they send to MIDA. DVDs MUST be labeled with title of film, running time, format (PAL/NTSC), contact name, email and tel number written on disc.

14. Immediately upon selection - A list of the dialogues in English - A press kit
15. For exhibition - Print of the selected film (in the exhibition format) - Posters, postcards and promotional materials.
16. All costs of sending DVD versions to the competition are the responsibility of the participants who are entering the films. 17. The DVD copies to be used in the selection process will not be returned and will become part of the MIDA archive, which may be consulted in viewings for educational purposes. For any kind of public projection, expressed permission from its authors will be required.
18. The festival is responsible for selecting all the documentaries that will be screened during the programmed schedule.
19. In case the film is selected, MIDA will inform the participant up to one month prior to the inauguration of the festival. After the participant has been informed about the participation of the film in the festival, the work must not be exhibited in China until it is screened at MIDA.
20. After the film has been selected, the festival can use: no more than fifteen minutes of the film for promoting the festival; The publicity material of the film (press kit, posters, postcards, etc.) for promoting the festival.
21. The projection copies of the film must be sent to MIDA before 21 May.
22. The costs of sending the copy to MIDA will be borne by the participant. The costs associated with returning the films to their country of origin, will be borne by the festival. Any customs duties in the country of origin will be borne by the participants.
23. After receiving the copies of the films, the festival is responsible for these copies until the moment they are sent back. In case of loss or damage during this period, the Festival will assume responsibility only for the replacement value of the print.
24. The producer of a film that is awarded a prize at MIDA will undertake to mention the MIDA prize in all promotional materials for the film and in the film credits of all copies afterward the festival.
25. Any entries of films made to MIDA presuppose knowledge of and an acceptance of these regulations.
26. The Festival Board will decide upon all matters that are not covered by these regulations in accordance with the international rules of Film Festivals.
